Prognosis windows client

Hello,

we plan to upgrade our Prognosis from 10.4 to 11.3 and want to do a parallel installation on the Nonstop systems. I tried to install the prognosis 11.3 windows client on my PC but I only get the update feature. Is it possible to install the prognosis 11.3 windows client parallel to the 10.4 windows client?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Prognosis windows client

Hey, Certainly side-by-side parallel installation is a good approach for NonStop for a more self-paced transition/user acceptance period, and the old version is still there to revert back to if you need. But you're right, you do need 2 clients because the Client can only connect to the same version server. You'll need the 10.4 client And a 11.3 client during this intermediate time when you're transitioning to the new version.

The answer to your question is, unfortunately, it is not possible to have the 2 Clients installed on the same Windows platform. You'll need a second Windows - laptop, desktop, or VM for the new client.
Also a couple of other precautions with side-by-side:
- The *first 4 characters* must be different of the sub-volume assigned for 11.3 to avoid accidentally overwriting the 10.4 subvolumes. See this Help article of how subvolumes are all created based on the first 4 characters in the primary installl sub-volume. 'Deployment and Installation > Installation > Server on HP NonStop > Installation Subvolume Requirements'
- Assign the new 11.3 a different unused TCP port and unused process name.

Hi Frank,

In later versions of Prognosis, we have made the Windows Client (GUI) backward compatible for a few versions. I just tested connecting my 11.3 Windows Client to an 10.4 Windows Server and it connected just fine. I know you are referring to the server part on your need being Nonstop, but I really do expect the behavior to be the same.

This might be something worth you trying because if your 11.3 Windows Client can connect to your 10.4 Nonstop servers, it will allow you just to have 1 GUI install and connect to both versions. Let me know how you get on with trying this.

Re: Prognosis windows client

I can also confirm I have customers who run a 10.x version of nonstop using a 11.x managing node.. as long as you are 10.3 or later on the Nonstop you should be ok.
