Known Firewall Issues

Let me phrase this question differently. Are there any software application...like Symantic Endpoint or TRAPS that are known to cause issues with Prognosis? In other words, When we are adding a client to prognosis are there any security software issues we need to address before we install? is there a document that shows security software that is a known to cause problems.

Re: Known Firewall Issues

Yes. Security software like these mentioned are known to cause various complex problem behaviors in Prognosis. There is no definitive list of security applications. Basically Prognosis should be excluded and allowed through.

>security software - add an exception for the entire Prognosis directory;
>local firewall such as Windows Defender - allow Prognosis app through the firewall
>local / network firewall - allow ports for particular processes being used.

Relevant documents:

Prognosis Client specific:
Deployment and Installation > Installation > Windows Client > Important Notes
Deployment and Installation > Installation > Windows Client > Installation Procedure

Prognosis and virus checking applications:
"Active virus checking software may cause system problems ranging from errors when accessing configurations to the slow transfer of data between servers", and can cause file conflicts and files becoming empty that can cause complex problem behaviors in Prognosis. Mentioned in online Help here in item 10 as well:
Deployment and Installation > Installation > Server on MS Windows > New Installation > Installation Checklist

Prognosis and Firewalls:
Deployment and Installation > General Information > Firewalls
Deployment and Installation > General Information > Port Requirements

I will add I know that Symantec Endpoint Protection does occasionally have issue sometimes with with specifically IRFILMON.sys. So excluding it from scanning I would add to your shortlist.

Re: Known Firewall Issues

Sorry to piggyback, but we just had an issue where one of our servers blue screened and all signs point to an issue with IRFILMON.SYS.

"ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for IRFILMON.SYS

Probably caused by : IRFILMON.SYS ( IRFILMON+119b )"

Have you seen this happen before?

Re: Known Firewall Issues

Hi Josh,

I have seen issues in previous cases where Antivirus applications cause problems with Prognosis including the IRFILMON.SYS crashing.  In one particular case, McAfee was the cause of the problem.  This was in older versions of Prognosis, that has been fixed in newer versions.  What version did you have the problem with?
