COMPRESSION ( NETRTR, ON ) - will it reduce network traffic?

Yes, it should. However note:
traffic should be relatively efficient already.
other options to consider include moving high traffic DBs onto the local node and then summarising to a managing node.
If turn on compression, note that there has been discussion in Jira suggesting that it might be inefficient - impacting relatively heavily on CPU. So that is something to watch.
