What are the steps to use the command line utility (ircnfutl) to backup and restore static configura

What are the steps to use the command line utility (ircnfutl) to backup and restore static configurations?

IRCNFUTL is a command line utility used for listing and updating static configurations without requiring the Graphical User Interface. It is useful in instances where static configurations need to be listed or modified and PROGNOSIS is not running. The executable ircnfutl.exe is located in the <PROGNOSIS>\Server directory on Windows, in <PROGNOSIS>/server on UNIX, and in the PROGNOSIS subvolume on HPNonStop.
Functions of IRCNFUTL:

List

The List function can be used to show the contents of a Configuration file on screen, or the output can be directed to a file. The List function can be used irrespective of whether Prognosis is running or not.

1. At the Command prompt, change directory (cd) to <PROGNOSIS>\Server\Configuration;

2. Enter the command

..\IRCNFUTL LIST_CONF <subsys_name>

<subsys_name> is replaced by the configuration type to be listed. For example to list details of the NETWORK Configuration:

..\IRCNFUTL LIST_CONF NETWORK

The above commands will show the configuration text on screen.

3. To save the configuration to a text file, add the > symbol followed by a file name, for example:

..\IRCNFUTL LIST_CONF NETWORK > backup_ NETWORK _config.txt

NOTE: The filename must not contain any spaces.

Update

The Update function is used to read an input text file containing configuration settings and update a static configuration.

A text editor can be used to edit or create the input file or the txt file generated by the List function can be used. The Update function can be used when PROGNOSIS is either running or stopped, but configuration changes will only become active when PROGNOSIS is restarted.

1. At the Command prompt, change directory (cd) to <PROGNOSIS>\Server\Configuration;
2. Enter the command

..\IRCNFUTL UPDATE_CONF <input_file_name>

For example to update the NETWORK Configuration:

..\IRCNFUTL UPDATE_CONF backup_ NETWORK _config.txt

A confirmation message on completion of the operation will be shown.

Backup and Restore

The above List and Update functions can be used to backup and restore configuration files. Use the List function to save the required configuration to a text file and then use the Update function to restore the configuration from the same text file.
