Looking to use Extractor for additional monitoring with irsnmp. I'm testing irsnmp from a command-line to verify settings and parameters but keep getting the following error:
D:\Prognosis\Server\Configuration>..\irsnmp -conf SNMP\snmp_sysuptime.cfg -agent 10.160.8.21
? Error 40 on SnmpMgrRequest to 10.160.8.21
RequestOID=.1.3.6.1.2.1.1
I've tried with different OIDs and get the same results. Any idea what Error 40 is? Found the following when googling the error:
This error occurs when the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
service fails or does not start. To correct this problem, restart the
service or ,if necessary, restart the computer.
Speculating I need to install SNMP on the Windows Server to run as a service but not sure.
Hi Matt,
The error 40 indicates the SNMP service on the remote server is either not running/activated or not responding to the query in the input file. For example if the SNMP Master agent service is down on a CUCM server, we will get this error when run the tool.
In your case the snmp service will need to be activated on the Windows server and community string set as well.
Thank you.
Okay, I can snmpwalk the device just fine so I'm thinking it may be the service that is the issue. I did install it but perhaps there is still a configuration step I missed.
Also, can you verify that SNMP Device Central doesn't use this? I think it is using PACE but just want to make sure.
Hi Matt,
If the community string is not correct, it can also return the error 40, but you can run the snmpwalk ok so the community string should be correct, you might double check it the input file.
Try to restart the SNMP service on the server and see if it helps.
The SNMP display won't affect this tool. If after verifying the community string and the service, it still does not run properly, please log a support case, our support team will help troubleshoot.
Thank you.
