Postgres errors while upgrading cause an upgrade fail

I have seen a few instances where an upgrade will fail and the logs will have something to the effect of "Failed to process PostgreSQL Backup".

Re: Postgres errors while upgrading cause an upgrade fail

Some of the cause's for this error are because the password for Postgres and Prognosis have been cleared or the entries don't exist at all in the Passwords Configuration.

Here is what to try next:

  1. Open the Client GUI on the desktop
  2. Navigate to the Configuration directory
  3. Select Passwords and right click choose properties
  4. Find the entries for Prognosis and Postgres.
  5. If password entries are missing, select the plus in the upper right of the Passwords Configuration window and enter an entry for Postgres and/or Prognosis. They will be: PQL:postgres or PQL:prognosis.
  6. Re-enter their passwords. The default passwords are the same as their name and in all lower case prognosis &  postgres.
  7. Select Start on the configuration.
  8. Restart the PrognosisPostgres Service in Windows services
  9. Open task manager and End task on irpqlsrv.exe
  10. Try upgrade again

As a side note to upgrading, I would recommend to make a backup of your Thresholds, Analysts, Databases, and custom Configurations.
