Looking for troubleshooting tips regarding sending e-mails from Prognosis 11.4. We hav two versions running, V9.1 and V11.4 and have no issues with V9.1. I copied the configurations from V9.1 to V11.4 and as a test stop a process for UPDOWN to identify and restart. UPDOWN will restart the process but there is no corisponding e-mail for the down/up. I have verified the DISPMAN configurations and they are identical.
Any ideas on what to check next?
A couple of questions and a couple of immediate suggestions based on limited info.
1) Do other things, even a basic threshold still send an email from the newer version?
2) What does it show in Dispatch Central, are they being queued / failed, or not even making it there?
3) What is the WVLOG in regards to DISPMAN, such as does it show you errors like "Unknown profile" or some other more cryptic ones?
4) Is DISPMAN running and is it restarting
5) Is the dispman and UPDOWN configuration fully accessible in IRGUI?
There is an IRCLEAN DISPMAN which sometimes is required on non-clean shutdowns/upgrades.. but almost always it is something else..
Let me know
Thank you very much Christopher for pointing me in the right direction.
On the Dispatch Centeral panel i am getting.
"Failed to Connect to Mail Server".
Is there a "mail server" associated with Prognosis 11.4 that needs to be running or is refering to our coporate generic e-mail forwarder that is listening on port 25?
Rick
OK, I have narrowed it down to DNS. When I put the IP address of our mail forwarder into the DISPMAN configuration it worked.
Now I need to figure out where DNS is configured in 11.4 that makes it different from 9.1
Rick
As far as I am aware there is not a DNS setting related to DISPMAN in Prognosis.. the DISPMAN setting can use a CNAME or DNS entry to a Relay Server host or something like that vs. an IP setting and the HOSTS configuration or something like that on the Operating system can make that reference is there is not a DNS registration itself.
One thing I personally have been seeing more and more is the requirement to use a relay server when sending from Prognosis as well as the Prognosis server sending the emails both be authorized and have HTML emails enabled... or if not allowed by your organization disabling them in the ALERTS subsys which is new in 10x+ over version 9 as well as by default in 11.x I believe enabled.. though you wouldn't see the particular error you are seeing.. it is what I suspect you might run into next..
RICH-ALERTS ({ON|OFF}) RICH-ALERTS DESTINATION ({snmptrap|dispatchmanager}, {Y|N}) RICH-ALERTS DISPATCH-MANAGER-FORMAT (HTML, {Y|N}>)
Christopher
Thanks for the pointers.
Here is what I have for V11.4
RICH-ALERTS( ON )
RICH-ALERTS DESTINATION( SNMPTrap, Y )
RICH-ALERTS DESTINATION( DispatchManager, Y )
I also understand what you are saying about system wide DNS and resolution, but here is where I'm confused.
We have V9.1 and V11.4 running in parallel on the same server so they would be using the same HOSTS and/or Nameservers for resolution unless in 11.4 there is some type of configuration that either turns this "on" or uses some type of pointer to the resolution file. V9.1 sends e-mails with the CNAME in the DISPMAN config while V11.4 only works with IP.
Based on your profile I am going to assume this is on an HP NonStop.. I did find a similar case in the case history but not sure its applicable.. as I am not sure if Prognosis under 11.4 and 9.1 are logging in as the same user with the same login and startmacro Macro but I found another customer had to do the following to the login Macro for the user to get the DNS to work vs. IP address on their NonStop for Prognosis to use DNS.
They were on 9.1sp4 though when they did this.. have you perhaps done something similar with your startprog on your existing installation?
We have modified the ‘startprg’ macro and added the following lines, after the “#PUSH”;
SINK [DELETE DEFINE =TCPIP^RESOLVER^NAME]
SINK [ADD DEFINE =TCPIP^RESOLVER^NAME , CLASS MAP , FILE $SYSTEM.TCPIP.MADNS]
Hi Rick and Chris. I am having a similar issue. Have 9.1 running on our 2 HP NonStops and have installed 11.5 on our 2 new HP NonStops. Am seeing "Unexpected disconnect from mailserver" on the outgoing dispatched messages. Am using an IP address for the mail server and have checked the ALERTS and DISPMAN configs. Any suggestions? Thanks. Anna
This could be a completely different issue as I don't have a lot of detail.. on the new servers.. I would look at:
1) Firewall
2) Ensuring the Nonstops are approved by Mail Server to send email (some customer require this)
3) It is sending as recognized email address (some customers require this)
4) Determine if your mail server accepts HTML emails from the HP Nonstop.. this can be enabled / disabled in ALERTS subsys.
