IR Prognosis Security Advisory - Notice of Meltdown and Spectre Vulnerabilities

Below are summaries with regards to the impact of Meltdown and Spectre patches:

  • IR has seen no Prognosis impact (bug/compatibility issue) from Microsoft Meltdown/Spectre patches
  • No customer has reported a Prognosis issue with Meltdown/Spectre patches
  • Customers should patch against Meltdown/Spectre as advised by OS and hardware vendors
  • OS performance can be impacted by Meltdown fixes on Intel, and so each customer will need to take this into account

This is an update regarding Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities. As a reminder, these vulnerabilities impact CPU hardware implementations; exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to obtain access to sensitive information.

IR is aware of the recent and ongoing advisories regarding potential vulnerabilities, which are being referred to in the media as Spectre and Meltdown. As reported, potentially vulnerable components include CPU, operating systems, and other information technology-related infrastructure (collectively, “Infrastructure Components”). These Infrastructure Components are under the control of our end-user clients. Prognosis is deployed on top of these Infrastructure Components, and may be indirectly exposed to potential Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities if they are not patched using appropriate patches provided by the manufacturers. We recommend that our end-user clients follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturers to mitigate any potential vulnerabilities.

IR has successfully performed functional tests of Prognosis on top of the supported patched server environments. In addition, performance testing completed to date has yielded results indicating a limited increase in CPU resource consumption, which is in line with the impact predicted by Microsoft.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
