How can I make sure anything important is backed up before performing an IRCLEAN on a Prognosis node?

How can I make sure anything important is backed up before performing an IRCLEAN on a Prognosis node?

Support has advised to perform an IRCLEAN but I want to make sure I don't lose any of my modified Thresholds, Analysts or Databases. How can I perform a backup of everything before performing the IRCLEAN?

Performing the backup prior to performing an IRCLEAN on a Prognosis node

Prognosis is a great tool for monitoring your environment but as with most tools, sometimes they need maintenance on the tools themselves to keep them running at peak performance. When certain issues arise the Support Team may advise you to perform an IRCEAN. The following is the proceedure that should be followed when performing a backup prior to performing an IRCLEAN.

  1. Run an IRFAX against the node in question to capture the state of the machine prior to doing anything.
  2. Open the Prognosis GUI Client connect to the node you are running the IRCLEAN on and log in.
  3. Expand the node you are running the IRCLEAN on within the Node Navigator Window.
  4. In the Document Navigator Window make a folder and label it as a backup for easy location later.
  5. In the Node Navigator Window Expand the Analysts section, right click on the first Analyst and select "Properties".
  6. In the Analyst's Properties Window click on the Save button. Save the file into the backup location you created in step 3.
  7. Continue saving the Analysts and when all are saved repeat the process with the Thresholds.
  8. Expand the Databases under the node you are performing the IRCLEAN on. You only need to back up the databases with a blue check mark on them. These are the actively running databases.
  9. Right click on the first database with a blue check and select "Properties".
  10. In the Prognosis Client's Toolbar click on the database collection icon. This will open up what will look like a blank database collection but it will have all the settings from the database that you are looking at the properties of.
  11. Save the file to the backup folder you created in step 3.
  12. Continue to back up all of the databases with blue check marks.

When finished you now have completed the backups and are ready to perform an IRCLEAN on the node.
