Handle Leaks/Leaking Handles

Handle Leaks/Leaking Handles

Description

  • Process MonitoringHost PID 16296 has a potential handle leak. Number of handles has grown from 1022 to 1662 over the past 45 mins. This process may be stopped from the Automation Central display.

Analysis:

Customer may receive the following Alert:

  • Process MonitoringHost PID 16296 has a potential handle leak. Number of handles has grown from 1022 to 1662 over the past 45 mins. This process may be stopped from the Automation Central display.
  • The alert received is informational as Prognosis monitors some Windows Services and Process for issues (Windows Analyst).

  • The reason you see this email alert is because Prognosis has a WindowsAnalyst (DetectHandleLeaks Rule) that is used to check the number of handles open per process every 15 minutes.
  • You will receive an email if the number of handles for that process has increased by over 15% over the last 45 minutes.
  • This does not mean that there is a guaranteed handle leak in Prognosis or the MonitoringHost but rather used as a tool to help you check if it is a bigger problem.
  • You should be able to see the problem under IRGUI Alerts Central display.

Resolution:

  • The MonitoringHost process is a process outside Prognosis. Prognosis detected a significant increase in the number of handles in use by this process over the 45 minute period.
  • Please see the following link for additional details:
  • Please check with your Server team/IS team to further discuss about MonitoringHost process.
