Confirming SNMP Connectivity to Remote devices

Description: A lot of our data sources are SNMP based and when initially setting them up for monitoring, if they do not show data, running the below snmpwalk with the same snmp credentials and settings as configured in Prognosis can help confirm connectivity and help you tweak your snmp settings on those devices so they respond to the commands. Support will regularly use this with you to troubleshoot. I have provided it here for the purpose of empowering users with this tool.

Below are some syntax examples for the snmpwalk.exe tool that exists in the C:\Prognosis\Server directory. We commonly use this to confirm connectivity.

Open a command prompt on the "C:\Prognosis\Server" directory
Then formulate the snmpwalk command based on the syntax below:

SNMPv3 Examples:
Here is a completely unauthenticated request (which still needs a user name, none the less):
[Prognosis Home] \Server>snmpwalk -m ALL -v 3 -n “” -u USERNAME -l noAuthNoPriv

Here is a authenticated request:
[Prognosis Home] \Server>snmpwalk -m ALL -v 3 -n “” -u USERNAME -a MD5 -A “PASSPHRASE” -l authNoPriv

And finally, here is an authenticated and encrypted request:
[Prognosis Home] \Server>snmpwalk -m ALL -v 3 -n “” -u USERNAME -a MD5 -A “PASSPHRASE” -x DES -X “PASSPHRASE” -l authPriv

SNMPv2c Example:
[Prognosis Home] \Server>snmpwalk -m ALL -v 2c -c COMMUNITYSTRING

Be sure to put your ip and other values in place for
Your IP instead of
