Prognosis Self Monitoring

Description: The Prognosis Self Monitoring solution is a Threshold with supporting displays/dashboard and is designed to help Prognosis administrators to simplify managing their Prognosis environment and detect issues in Prognosis from a top level managing node. Its features cover the following areas:
• common critical errors in Prognosis error logs 'wvlog' with suggested solutions;
• old patch levels, low disk space and connectivity with Prognosis servers;
• databases wrapping too short or overdue for updates or auto-summarization failing;
• thresholds and analysts that stopped running;
• easy generate, retrieve 'irfax' and 'wvlog' diagnostics for requesting Support;
• alerts for Health Check issues found.

Prognosis Self Monitoring V2.1 includes:
Health Check Central display
Database Surveillance display\dashboard
Alerts Surveillance display\dashboard
Threshold for the key critical health check items on these displays\dashboards

Some of the key criteria behind these solutions are:
Management node only settings - No configurations or changes to monitoring nodes
- This allows scaling to very large environments and prevents the solution becoming a burden
Concentrate on areas not already monitored by other thresholds/analysts
Only show problems on the displays/dashboards/threshold
Easily maintainable

Cost: Free (Free installation too)
How can I get this solution? Post a response to this topic and an IR STaff member will contact you and arrange a free installation
- This includes supply of the latest files,
- Installation via a session with a support staff member
- Training on it's use

Re: Prognosis Self Monitoring

The Prognosis Self Monitoring solution has been an invaluable tool for me in my daily work. I currently manage approximately 200 monitoring nodes with 13 management servers. With Adam's help, I have deployed this tool on all 7 of my reporter servers. This tool offers one place to look for WV.log errors, contractibility issues and IPT Database alerts on all of my monitoring nodes. It also provides me with all of the patch-level information per node, which is exactly what I need when attempting to upgrade over 200 monitoring nodes. The tool provides the perfect overview for the overall health of my environment without having to log into each node. I cannot begin to count the hours this tool has saved me in troubleshooting and general care and feeding. It also has a customizable threshold that allows me to receive the alerts I need and where I need them. With an environment the size of mine, I have to have a means of Prognosis telling me about issues before they become out of hand. The Prognosis Self Monitoring tool has provided me exactly the information I need to keep my systems healthy.

Re: Prognosis Self Monitoring

If you have Prognosis Self Monitoring V1.x and want to know what the differences are between your version and the new one, please read this post:

Prognosis Self Monitoring V2.1 introduces:

1. Database Surveillance
- Be able to configure key databases to be alerted on if they stop- A change has been made and you now select specific databases and nodes to monitor
- Growth Stats - Know how much space they are using and know if they are wrapping prematurely due to size setting.

2. Monitor the SEND Queue for netrtr communications
- If data is being delayed due to the connenction speed between nodes not being sufficient, this value can help to identify the bottlenecks.

3. Alert Surveillance
- SImilar change in regards to configuring this via a profile now instead of dynamically.

Note: Prognosis Self Monitoring V1.x can still be a better choice for some customer's and will still be an option to choose if you do not want to setup profile files for alerts and databases on a per item setting. If needed we migth even be able to do a hybrid of the 2.

Re: Prognosis Self Monitoring

Hi Cedric,

I will reach out to you so we can schedule a time to set this up for you. It only takes about an hour, we will need access to your top level node at that time.

Hi Andy,

I'll shoot you an email to work out a good 1 hour block of time to install this for you.

The 1 hour session consists of:
We install and configure it for you (This part actually only takes 5-10 minutes)
We fix any problems it detects (Or give you detailed direction on how to fix it )
We train you on the key pieces

Re: Prognosis Self Monitoring

Hi Adam,

Thanks for helping me install the new Prognosis Self Monitoring V2.1.
It immediately provided value in identifying key databases that were wrapping too fast.
- Your extra direction on the call on how to validate and resize these was invaluable.

I do urge any other Prognosis customers out there to take advantage of this free solution

Thanks.
Andy.
