As many of you may already know, Prognosis Path Insight has the ability to scan single devices or by network range to add devices for monitoring. A question that often comes up is “How can I add additional devices once Prognosis has been configured?”
There are several options that can be used to add/modify device entries.
Path Insight executables: Path Insight has several built in executable files that can be used to update devices in your network. These are located within your Prognosis PathInsight installation at the following location: “<install drive>\Program Files (x86)\IR\Path Insight”.
"MonitorWizard.exe": The first (and simplest executable) is the MonitorWizard.exe. Launching this file will bring up the scan wizard that you likely had seen as part of the initial installation. Follow the steps on the 4 screens to add individual devices or a range of IP addresses.
"MonitorConfig.exe": This is more of a global configuration utility. Each of the tabs provide an area in which configuration can be modified on a much larger scale. This includes threshold alerting as well as multiple controlling parameters. This also allows you to re-validate PI licenses.
Path Insight “CFG files”
"SwitchMonitor.cfg": This text base files houses all of the devices added/monitored by Path Insight. This file can be edited to easily add additional devices to monitoring. Once entries or other related changes are completed, save the file and bounce the IR Path Insight service to read in the updates. It is always recommended to make a backup copy of this file prior to editing!
"IgnoreList.cfg": This can be used to ignore certain interfaces from being monitored within Path Insight..
For a more in-depth description of each, see the Prognosis Path Insight documentation available at
