Is it possible to verify the status of H.323 and VG gateway via SNMP request?

Prognosis obtains information from Cisco H.323 and VG gateway by sending SNMP requests. There are many tools to verify the status of H.323 and VG gateways.

Some of these tools include:

MIB Browser, such as that offered by MG soft. (http://www.mg-soft.si/), it can be used to verify that the monitoring nodes are talking to the gateways correctly.

Ethereal can be used to look at actual SNMP packets on the wire.(http://www.ethereal.com/).

Simple Agent Pro from SimpleSoft.(http://www.smplsft.com/SimpleAgentPro.html). This simulation tool can be used to capture data from a user site and then simulate and test Prognosis without requiring the real devices. Integrated Research support can provide this on request as a zip file (SAPNwalk.zip). It is a command line utility that uses SNMP GETNEXT requests to query a network entity for a tree of information.

Below are the steps to collect SNMP walk data from devices:

Step 1. Unzip the SAPNWALK.zip to a local temp folder i.e. c:\Temp\
Add the IP addresses of the desired devices, one per line, to the file "devlist.txt", with the following format:
<IP address> <SNMP version> <Community string>
where
<IP address> is the IP address of the device
<SNMP version> is the SNMP version supported by the device
<Community String> is a text string that acts as a password
e.g. 10.1.1.89 v2c public

Step 2. In most cases probably only need to change the <IP Address> and leave ‘v2c public’ as the default. If devices are version 1 or version 3 of SNMP, then just can use ‘v1’ or ‘v3’ as appropriate.

Step 3. Once addresses are added to devlist.txt double click on "discover.bat", and SNMP walks will be performed on each device. Output will be a .walk file in the "walk" directory. Note that this capture tool might take a while to run as it is gathering various data for a number of OIDs.
